The perfect way to get into the wonderful world of whitewater kayaking! Our Intro to river kayaking course follows a steady progression designed to give you the skills and confidence to take up a new sport. The course meets on Friday night at the SAIT Aquatics center, where we cover some flat-water basics, how to get out of your kayak in the water and make sure everyone is comfortable in their boats. On Saturday we head out to Bowness Park to build on the skills we learned the night before and get acquainted with the current. After a morning of work on Eddie turns and other current maneuvers we carry on down the river to put our newfound skills to use. Sunday is all about the river running! Heading up to the Ghost Dam gives us the opportunity to try our skills in a slightly faster current as well as work on reading the river, safety and rescue techniques, an introduction to the kayak roll and finally our very first Class II whitewater experience!
